"Shatterglass," the final installment of Tamora Pierce's "Circle Opens" Quartet, is also the best of the series thus far. Pierce takes a good hard look at caste systems and the value societies place on one life over another based on class membership. The narrative here is strong, and I couldn't predict the outcome ahead of time. I also grew to like Tris as a character more than I had previously; her personality was deepened and shaded realistically, and I empathized with her on a gut level over the challenges she faced as a young person given adult responsibilities. I am so very glad that I stuck with this series of books.

This book is the 4th in this series. All of Tamora Pierce's books are great and this one is with the 4 friends that are magically linked & how they renew their friendship through adversity.
