I love all of the Last Man Standing books. I recieved the first book, Gideons story, as a gift, and then I had to search for the rest of the men. This is Daniel's story.

3rd to fall
This is third in a series. I read this one first because I did not know there were others. I may read them as well - hopefully there are the full 4. In this story, a gal is forced to wed a man she does not know to save her family. He is an American and is also forced by honor due to the contract his father made on his behalf. In order to try to find out about the man, she acts as her guardian to try to meet his assistant in a bid to gain information. Since she is of an age she can refuse marriage, she is going to unless she loves the person she will wed. She meets up with the "assistant" - not knowing she is talking to the man she is to marry. He is about to disuade her of her error when he stops as he finds he must find out about his intended also. Since neither want the marriage they set upon their game. Each playing someone else to gain information. As they meet, they fall for each other - under the guise of someone else. The plot thickens and he is determined to give it all up as he finds himself in love with the "chaperone". On his way, he finds he is really in love with the women intended for him. He is talked into keeping the secret so that she is forced to tell her deceipt by her brother. Then she finds out about him being her intended and that he has played the same game as her. Along the way they each had resigned to marry and tell their deceipt. However, along the way, he has also found out about an inheritance she knew nothing about. They finally come clean at a meeting only for her to find out it is about money (she thinks). They have a final confrontation at the wedding - you will have to read to find out the resolution after he walks away to sail to america while she sits in her bed chamber.
