Two eccentric classics from Russia and Nepal by a strange Victorian, Laurence Oliphant (1829-1888), South-African born British author, traveller, diplomat, Christian mystic and Christian zionist. Oliphant went to Nepal at the invitation of the Prime Minister in 1850 and wrote "The Journey to Katmandu" about his time and experiences there. Shortly after, he was off again crossing Russia from St. Petersburg and Moscow, down the Volga and Don to the Black Sea, hence his "The Russian Shores of the Black Seas".
