Beautiful, cultivated, the daughter of a hero of the Napoleonic wars, Maria Volkonsky had been married only one year when in 1825 the tsar sentenced her husband to life imprisonment in Siberia. Despite her family's and the tsar's opposition, Maria was determined to join her husband in exile. She was more than halfway there when the tsar decreed that she could never return from Siberia.

I like Russian History and its writers.
The Princess of Siberia is a wonderful book that describes the fate of the Decembristas a group of noblemen that fought for the serfs in Russia. Anything that describes the fight of the serfs for freedom and independence from the Russian autocrats interests me. There is another wonderful book titled "Mother" by Maxim Gorky, who describes also all the struggles of this forgotten people by their then dictator.
