L.P. Holmes is a giant among the western writers of America. And Roaring Acres does not disappoint. The Land rush is the setting, and farmers, and ranchers and outlaws are all competing for a piece of the territory. That is the setting of this book, but don't let that old fashion scenario get you to thinking this is just another bang-banb shoot-em up. The tension builds with every page until it explodes at the end with Dave and Maidie going home "to the sun and stars you spoke of" Maidie says to Dave. I have been collecting L.P. Holmes for over 40 years and until about 1980 his books appeared regularly on the book shelves, then suddenly they stopped. I was thrilled when they again reappeared in these mass-market paperbacks, but alas, they too have disappeared as that company has stopped publishing that form of books. I know of no other company doing "traditional" westerns by the greats of the past. If you love this type of book, here's one for you.
