The little mountain town of Reservation had made itself a big name as a renegade haven where all lawmen were fair game. Deputy Sheriff Grady Haskell had enough sense to mask his true identity when he rode into Reservation. He didn't care to end up a dead hero--he just wanted to get his man and get out of town. But Haskell's temper was as hair-triggered as his Colt .45--and one savage beating was all it took to make him take all covers off. Haskell's star was on his chest now, his guns were in his hands, and he served notice ...

One thing you can be sure of when you obtain an L P Holmes book, there is no foul language, and the fist fights and gun play are within the actions of reasonablity--the only solution to the situation at hand. The edition of Hill Smoke I have is the Popular Library one and I have had it since 1982. Every L P Holmes book is filled with characters you can identify with, or know, and there is enough latent energy and mystery about some of them to keep you wondering about them as you turn the pages of the book. Deputy Sheriff Grady Haskell is one such character, his true identity is kept hidden, his reason for being in the town of Reservation is ambiguous at best; but somehow it all works out in a way that seems logical and plausable. I suggest you get this book and then I think you'll come to like L P Holmes as much as I have for the past 40 years.
