Should the foregoing remarks be construed in any way, as tending to an apparent disparagement of Mr. Bother's work, such inference would be an erroneous one; we consider the book an imminently useful one, not only to beginners in pharmacy but to pharmacists iu general. Its preeminent merit consists in the author's departure from the conventional track of the accustomed methodical and systematic treatment of the subject-matter in text-books. By its original and masterly treatment and by the elegance of language, this book ranks far above the kindered and more voluminous works, and deserves high appreciation, even if it had not accomplished anything else towards the advancement of pharmaceutical instruction, than to establish a higher standard of literary achievement in Aineriuin pharmaceutical literature.
