Ninety works by Klee-including drawings, watercolors and oils-comprise the Berggruen Klee Collection and are published together for the first time. These works span the career of the artist from his student days in Bern in the 1890s to his death in Muralto-Locarno in 1940. Includes an interview with the artist's only son, Felix, informal photographs of the Klee family, and a behind-the-scenes view of the Bauhaus, where Klee taught. Most of the works are reproduced in full-page colorplates, accompanied by an extensive entry which incorporates biographical information and quotations from Klee's letters (as yet unpublished in English). Also contains an extensive chronology and bibliography.

However, name and address sticker of previous owner is attached to top RH corner of front cover. A complete survey of the Klee collection in the MMA, as donated by Heinz Berggruen in 1984. Illustrations cover the 11 paintings, 71 water-colours and eight black-and-white drawings in the collection. All aspects of Klee, both as painter and as draftsma, are covered by the collection, which starts in 1893 with a drawing by the then 13-year-old, and ends with a gouache painted in the year of his death. Numerous indexes included. This is a heavy book and may require extra postage outside the UK.
