The authro, who has won reknown as a photographer, artist and writer, presents this pictorial history of the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Built in the 1830s, it runs through central New Jersey between the Delaware River to the west and the Raritan River to the east. The idea for the canal actually began with William Pen n in the 1690s, as a way of shortening the trip from Philadelphia to New York by some 100 miles and keeping boats from having to use the Atlantic Ocean.
