WWII History at its best!
Written by James M. Gavin, who was the youngest major general in the U.S. Army in WWII, he commanded the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 82nd Airborne Division. "On to Berlin" is his memoir of the war. You are on the front lines with the 82nd Airborne through their combat jumps into Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Holland, and on the ground with them through the end of the war and into the occupation of Berlin. General Gavin has great incite into the personalities of notable leaders such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, Bernard Montgomery, and others who are legends to the WWII historian. His writing style is very readable. If you are at all interested in the airborne operations of the U.S. Army in WWII, this is a must read, written by a man who helped shape airborne doctrine from the beginning and who was with the soldiers for every jump.
