This is a great book for understanding the history of early American racing. It goes from the seeds of European designs through Miller then Offenhauser when the former went bankrupt. The era lasted till the 1970's when more modern engines began to make their appearance and this book explains the reasons why. It held sway for decades being the go to engine from dirt tracks to Indy, a marvel of engineering for it's day! The pictures and line drawings are memorizing, one could spend hours just studying them alone!
