This volume expands on the information in the National Geographic field guide, and National geographic 'The Complete Birds of North America'.
Although titled as a reference atlas the book covers in more detail information contained in the Field guide and The Complete Birds...
Not all species are covered but there are some large full page maps showing distribution and migration routes of several members of the same family. There are a set of species range maps at the end of the book but these are just slightly larger scale versions of those inthe Field guide. However it is still a very attractive and informative book with some nice plates and photographs to illustrate it. Taken together with the National Geographic Field Guide and Complete Birds of North America it forms a comprehensive volume of North American Birdlife especially with the prices of some of the copies which are available.
