Been a long time comin'
Finally Archipelago Books and Robert Bonono get together to get more of Mr. Crevel's works available in English. (Dalkey Archives is another great publisher/translator of his works. Probably the only other.) But, that said, this work was published 29 years after his death, and translated into this volume 31 after that!
Worth the wait!
My Body and I is a wild ride through a self-imposed "vacation" whose only goal is Solitude -- respite if possible, but solitude first. He just stews and stews, composing rapid text which bends language to its furthest capabilities (thank you again Mr. Bononno).
I can honestly say that I have never read prose like this before, and I have searched. Additionally, this book really affected me... for weeks.
I am so happy to have finally found such great translations of Rene Crevel's works. This writing has changed my conception of prose and its capabilities. Crevel and Bataille are on the edge of possibilities of language.
