Oh what could have been
With Pat Frank's stellar novel Alas Babylon burning in my cranium, I was totally looking forward to the unique premise of Mr. Adam. Alas (no pun intended), a great premise was never realized. I kept waiting and waiting for the novel to catch fire but disappointingly it just never got rolling. There would be creative spurts and the occasional witty scene but overall it was like being on a treadmill. It's hard to say where Frank went wrong but in looking at Babylon, there were many well developed scenes that resonated. It's as if he didn't work hard enough at what would seem to be a writer's paradise of an idea. Oh well.
