For some unknown reason, John Laurens does not get mentioned alongside John Hancock, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Alexander Hamilton in American colonial history books. I discovered John Laurens' story while studying his father Henry Laurens' time as president of the Continental Congress. Is it fair that such a good man is not listed in the histories of the Americas? Is it merely because Laurens died an untimely, premature death at the age of 27?
