Phiz. Good. A first edition in book form of this novel by Frank E. Smedley. With illustrations by "Phiz." Francis Edward Smedley, (4 October 1818 – 1 May 1864) was an English novelist. His name appears in print usually as Frank E. Smedley. Lewis Arundel or The Railroad of Life was originally contributed to Sharpe's London Magazine, which he for some time edited, and was published in book-form in 1852. In a green cloth binding with gilt lettering to the spine and gilt embellishment to the front board. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Spine is cocked and sunned. There is some damage to the top and tail of the spine. Corners are bumped. There is some evidence of previous damp staining. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. There is an ink inscription to the front pastedown, dated 1854. Good.
