Global Catastrophe
An interesting concept: a global blackout caused by an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse). It affects all electrical and electronic equipment. Communications are affected and planes fall out of the sky. As people slowly learn what happened, they pull together as a family and as a neighbourhood to survive. It's a good thing this happened in the spring in the southern U.S. If it had happened in Canada during the winter, we'd be freezing to death. I also think there would have been more panic and lawlessness. Suddenly, everyone has to do what the Amish have been doing all along; travelling by horse and buggy, growing their own food, burning or recycling their garbage, and sharing with their neighbours. A murder in their neighbourhood makes them all suspicious of one another. The family learns some hard lessons about themselves and each other. It made me go out and restock my emergency supplies.
