Pour se documenter, il se d???guise et visite les bas-fonds de la capitale dans ses recoins les plus sordides.Du socialisme, il ???volue peu ??? peu vers le fouri???risme et publie Le Juif errant (1844-1845), tableau idyllique d'une soci???t??? communautaire. Il se pr???sente aux ???lections, est finalement ???lu, la seconde fois, d???put??? r???publicain et socialiste de la Seine. Il vit dans un luxe insolent et signe des contrats d'???dition fabuleux. Myst???res du peuple, est vendu par souscription depuis 1849 et envoy??? aux lecteurs par la poste pour d???jouer la censure. L'ouvrage est mis ??? L'Index par Rome et son auteur est souvent inqui???t??? par la police. Eug???ne Sue ne survivra pas ??? la saisie des 60 000 exemplaires chez son ???diteur. Il meurt le 3 ao???t 1857.
