A very enjoyable read, not diminished at all by the fact that most of us have seen one of the movies and know how it comes out. I like the book's ending better -- it teaches a better lesson than the movies. Fills in some background which makes it more plausible for SF lovers, though there are a few "suspension of disbelief" moments. The characters are likeable, even the pod people are presented in a more sympathetic light.
This 1974 edition was updated very superficially by the author -- some glosses like new car models -- but is a book with 1950's sensibilities.
