Finney has once again transported us to another time yet the same place. To be sure the first book, Tim and Again was so very charming that many readers have waited two decades or more for a sequel and here it is. Yet this version lacks the mystery and charm of the first effort.
That is not to say it lacks depth or intrigue. Quite to the contrary. But one cannot help but compare sequels to the originals. In this instance the original was a breeze and a wonderful "what if" scenario. The new version lacks quite the charm and ambiance of the first while still "transporting" readers to a pivotal moment of history. The idea of not only being able to change history but the question of should we if we could hangs as a nexus throughout the book.
With minor reservations I can recommend this effort especially if you never read the first one. Other than that is a nice read but little else.
