In the Rogue Blood is reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Plenty of 1800s violence for those that enjoy such. Great character development. Not much in the way of anything lovey-dovey... this isn't a romance novel. And don't look for comedy relief. Blake's novel, in my opinion, is considerably better than McCarthy's, in that there is actual punctuation, and you are not left wondering who said what, or what the heck is going on. And Blake does not go off on tangents, telling stories that have nothing to do with the main theme of the book. If you like McCarthy, you should LOVE Blake.
