Biography of Bill Hayden, originally elected to parliament in 1961, becoming a minister under the Whitlam government in 1972. As health minister he was responsible fro bringing Medicare into being. He became Treasurer in 1975. On Whitlam's retirement he took over the leadership of the Labor Party. Later he was made Governor-General of Australia.
