First of all, no cookbook is worth the several hundreds of dollars these greedy and deluded sellers are asking (which is why nobody is buying it for those prices, funny that). Why not just spring for a couple of tickets to Austin & actually eat at Fonda San Miguel if you're that invested in it, hahaha.
The cookbook isn't even 10 years old and is in every bookstore in Austin for the cover price! Or check out Epicurious for many of the FSM recipes...as they have several.
Lastly, it would be cheaper (and more fun, actually...definitely more personal) to drop a dime on a phone call to the restaurant or spend two minutes composing an email & contacting the head chef at FSM yourself, ask them for the recipe for the dish you care for, and get a personalized response! People do it all the time...they're used to it & are frankly flattered by it. The staff at Fonda San Miguel has always been more than generous in sharing recipes.
I've been close friends with the owners for decades & even they think these online used bookstore sellers asking an arm and a leg for a cookbook that doesn't include the recipe for diamonds and gold are ridiculous!
Just know that the publishers and the contributing authors for the cookbook receive NONE of the proceeds from used book sales...they only get money from initial sales. So just give the good folks at FSM a call & they'll share the recipe you're hankerin' for! Um, and they'll do it for free.
My recommendation is that anyone with a lick of sense should refrain from contributing to this tacky demonstration of pure greed...antics like this are what's wrong with America and why the rest of the world thinks we're fools. So sad.
