It's no coincidence that the opening track, "Flamenco Surf," runs like a takeoff on Mason Williams' "Classical Gas"; like Williams, Henderson on this tune inventively applies his brisk string style into a fast driving pop/rock context. But this is just the start of a happily unpredictable ride. He then swings into a straight ahead jazz mode with bassist Jimmy Johnson; grabs the spotlight over a pounding synth dance groove; and even adds punchy solos throughout a silky R&B vocal ballad with Thelma Houston, creating a call and response effect. He doesn't dwell on his flamenco propensities long, but his few lightning quick runs in this style - including the dramatically orchestrated "Cowboys in Spain" give the much heralded Jesse Cook a run for his money.
