That the committee be empowered to call a general meeting of the members for special purposes; a fortnight's notice of such meeting and the objects thereof being given by advertisement in the newspapers; and that no alteration of these rules be adopted except at a general meeting. RULES RESPECTING THE FENTON FREE SCHOLARSHIPS. 1856, November 6. That the two free scholarships established to commemorate the long and valuable services of Mr. Fenton, be called "The Fenton Free Scholarships," and that they shall be tenable for six years. That children elected to these scholarships shall have their board and education free; the only expense to their parents being that of clothing. That the candidates be children of poor parents, resident in the county of York, and in their ninth year. That in case of several candidates, the preference be given to a boy and a girl, rather than to two boys, or two girls. That the deaf and dumb children of former pupils shall have the preference, if their parents are in poor circumstances. That the cases of all the candidates shall be considered by the committee, and that such as are selected shall be approved by the votes of the subscribers at the annual general meeting.
