Die Rede ist von der sogenannten Decischen Christenverfolgung. Diese wird im Allgemeinen als Wendepunkt in der Geschichte der Christenverfolgung bezeichnet, denn sie gilt als die erste zentral organisierte und reichsweite Verfolgung von Christen im R???mischen Reich und als Vorbild der folgenden Verfolgungen bis zum 313 erlassenen Toleranzedikt von Mailand. Problematisch an den bisherigen Rekonstruktionen der Verfolgung von Christen in den Jahren 249 bis 250 ist, dass sie de facto allein auf der Basis der christlichen Quellen geschah. Die Arbeit von R. Selinger hat jedoch gezeigt, eine Rekonstruktion der Ereignisse der Decischen Verfolgung ist auch ohne die Hinzuziehung der christlichen Zeugnisse, allein auf der Grundlage der wenigen "heidnischen" Quellen, m???glich. Da dabei zum Teil erhebliche Abweichungen von der christlichen Sicht festgestellt werden konnten, ist es notwendig geworden, die von den christlichen Autoren als Christenverfolgung interpretierten Ereignisse unter Bezugnahme auf die Ergebnisse Selingers und einer kritischen Betrachtung der christlichen Quellen sowie der traditionellen Forschungsmeinung daraufhin zu ???berpr???fen, ob es sich denn wirklich um eine Christenverfolgung handelte.
