Naked actress!

This book discusses the live, loves and work of an energetic woman back in the middle of the 19th century. Perhaps a woman of colour,perhaps Jewish, whatever- she attracted world wide attention with her acting, esp. her role as Mazeppa on horseback, her affairs & marriages and latterly, her poetry and other writing. Made me appreciate being a 20th century woman without the many social strictures Mencken had to circumvent. The writing was a bit slow at times but overall, I would recommend it to a feminist, a sociologist or a shrink!
