This is a book I couldn't put down. It was mostly written by Colleen Dewhurst herself, who died before it was finished, and was added to by many of her acquaintenances and friends. This only gives it an further richness, because we get all sides and so a more rounded picture.
Colleen Dewhurst was one helluva girl, and her own voice is so refreshing and honest and gutsy and readable. She was reticent only about her relationship with George C. Scott (they married and divorced twice), but we get a pretty good picture from her friends' dropped comments, and they seemed to have been quite a pair.
I have absolutely no reluctance about recommending this wonderful book about a life-rejoicing lady whose friends (such as Maureen Stapleton) were as large-of-life as she was. I was sad when it was finished.
