I got Rick Rodgers' Thanksgiving book and absolutely loved it. I thought getting the Christmas book would be a good idea. At 173 pages, it is good size and not too cumbersome to use during holiday cooking.
The chapters are divided by courses, starting with appetizers and drinks before proceeding to first courses, main and side dishes. Near the end are four chapters for bakers. Mr. Rodgers believes that Christmas means cookies, but also has recipes for candy, bread and desserts.
In the back are menus for a specific type of party, plus the time table for preparation of the food. This simplifies things greatly. The dishes do not seem overly complicated for the average cook.
In addition to the mix of recipes, there are some anecdotal stories that tug at the heartstrings.
This year, when I am stuck trying to think of something new to make for the holidays, I will definitely reach for Rick Rodgers' Christmas 101.
