Filmed on location "Somewhere in France", this umpteenth version of Dumas' The Corsican Brothers stars the zoned-out comedy team of Cheech and Chong. Perhaps inspired by the Ritz Bros.' spin on The Three Musketeers, the duo retains enough of the original story (about twin brothers who feel one another's pain) to keep the plot going, but try to inject their own peculiar brand of humor throughout. The film's highlight is a duel with two loaves of stale bread. Yes, that's the highlight. Just as the 1930s comedy team of Wheeler ...

The film's highlight is a duel with two loaves of stale bread. Yes, that's the highlight. Just as the 1930s comedy team of Wheeler and Woolsey lost their audience when they dropped their risque humor and Prohibition gags, so too do Cheech and Chong falter when not indulging in the drug-oriented comedy which made them famous in the early 1970s. TITLE: Cheech And Chong's "The Corsican Brothers"
GENRE: Period comedy (French Revolution)
CAST: Cheech Marrin, Tommy Chong and Roy Dotrice
PLOT: A pair of empathically attached twins are separated in their youth. When they come together again, the height of privileged atrocities have the French people on the verge of revolt. This story tells of how the two brothers bring the revolution about (Spoiler Alert: Not Historically Accurate)
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 6 of 10; It's the great Stoner Duo in a story without drugs! They do show they can act, that their (Chong's) creativity extends beyond roach jokes. The film touchs on torture and sexual perversions (think de Sade) It has a beginning, a middle and an end. There are good comic routines throughout. But, by taking away the drugs, they show the appeal for their humor is limited, also evidenced by the fact this was their last movie together as leads. Idea exhausted. But, Chong does come up with the "My Brother" bit to his advantage.
DVD BONUS: None
ADDED NOTES: They summarize this film best in the credits where the location of filming is given as "Somewhere in France".
