Seller's Description:

The characters seemed real, the scientific documentation was exquisite--nice for once to see a writer unafraid of science, and apparently correct. So few books are willing to take on a gay scientist who is devoted to his research. This book avoids stereotype characters and situations. The link to Steinbeck and Cannery Row is not completely successful. This link really was not necessary--it could have been constructed with both Steinbeck and Doc just part of the background, and no phony unpublished manuscript was needed. Worst feature: the sexual apotheosis at the end, set of course, in Rickett's laboratory. Too much, and out of key with the realism of the majority of the book.
