This was a well-written book about the struggles on the frontier, and even moreso about the struggles that a young, gay man had, trying to just live a good life without being subject to a society that hates him for who he is. It shows how important it was to keep his sexuality quiet at that time. It has a good storyline - and a brutal murderer. The characters are solid and well-developed. Good read.
