This book provides a picture of the early days of harness racing and a profile of one of its greatest stars. Not to be missed if you are a horse lover!

Storytelling at its finest
Marguerite Henry did a beautiful job here of combining two true stories (although of course, fictionalized just a bit to make a great story). She starts off with the harness racing legend Rosalind and her owner's struggles with his health. As he recuperates, he learns about Rosalind's ancestor, the famous Hambletonian, and that horse's incredible rise from obscurity. It's a completely enchanting tale of love between animals and people, laced with some real historical events. I lose track of how may times I read it!

A True Treasure
This is one of my favourite books. I read it over and over again. It's a Marguerite Henry book with illustrations by Wesley Dennis. Need I say more? All books by these two are treasures. Be sure to get the older editions with the coloured illustrations, though!
