"Today Benjamin West is remembered because he was the father of American painting . . . but I like to remember him as the boy who wanted so very much to paint that he dug his colors out of the ground and made his brushes from his cat's tail."--Marguerite Henry.

Good. Good condition. A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.
This is a very interesting, easily read, very sweet story about one of American history's lesser-known figures - and his cat. It provides much insight into the life of the Quakers and of 18th century society in western Pennsylvania. Marguerite Henry and Wesley Dennis were definitely up to par when producing this book.

Delightful book
I recently remembered this title from my childhood, and bought a copy to read to my two small daughters. They loved it, and I enjoyed it at least as much as they did. There's a perfect blend of history and humor and human interest. This book will undoubtedly remain a family classic for us. I highly recommend it to anyone who gets weary of the cheap trash flooding the market today.
