In the early morning hours, a gunshot echoes across the quiet community of Valdosta, Georgia. A professor, known for his extensive studies of the Okefenokee Swamp, is gunned down in the lighted vestibule of his home. Students and citizens fear a murderer is walking among them. Windows are slammed shut and deadbolts secure doors in thousands of homes. Among the shocked citizens is Valdosta State University baseball Coach Chad Harrington, a neighbor of the murder victim. The Brownlees discover more than error-infested infield play. A quagmire of innuendo that points to a conspiracy to safeguard the university's integrity amidst serious allegations of misconduct, neglect, hazing, molestation and finally murder. Will they be able to unmask the killer, though?
