I couldn't put this book down. It was about a cult that sought power in society rather than mere control over a few people. The did this by infiltrating into society in key places, like a secret society, murdering people who got in the way, by convenient "accidents".
It is double suspenseful because of two concurrent substories that eventually intersect.
The first is about a family who had been high up in the cult, but were then converted to Christianity. They are on the run from the cult. The other is about a woman who is involved in the cult, but has second thoughts and attempts to escape with her life.
A promise made long ago is called in, to help twins Micah and Michelle, one of whom is blind, to find their mother. The flawed and hurting Thomas Kent learns to stop his pity party long enough to help the kids and bring down the cult.
