I purchased this book for my daughter's high school chemistry class. The copy I purchased is new. It is apparently a book that was provided to instructors for review. We had a LOT of problems joining a class for the lab section of her course.
The publisher has online access to additional information that will help the students. There is an access code in the front of the book. It appears that the codes are different for books published for student and teachers. It took 2 1/2 weeks of email back and forth with the publisher and a 40 minute online chat session for her to get access to a class. We did finally get it to work, but it was complicated, frustrating and time consuming. I would caution anyone purchasing the book for a student that it may not be easy to join an online class. At least I would skip the email back and forth and start with a live chat if you want to register the book and join a lab class.
I can't say much about the book itself, as it is only 3 weeks into the semester. My daughter finds it easy to read and use so far.

Basic Chemistry
This text is good when takign abasic course in chemistry. I outline and details the steps needed to take in order to attain the appropriate answers. I do think the text needs a more well defined index section and glossary. The text I had was the instructors edition, which helped out emensely.
