Ballyclare is a market town between Belfast and Larne in Northern Ireland which holds an annual street fair. The May Fair was traditionally a horse trading fair and a 'hiring' fair, where employers hired farm labourers and domestic servants. In 1888, a series of remarkable photographs was taken of the May Fair and published as glass, magic lantern, projection slides. This 24 page booklet reproduces the thirty three photographs, with an accompanying script written in the 1990s, by Archie Reid, a Ballyclare local historian.
