Oft fuhrten aber auch rein praktische Grunde wie die Verfugbarkeit einer bestimmten Formvorlage zur Wiedergabe anthropomorpher Figuren nach einem Schema. Dabei konnten die Bildwerke die einstigen Sinnzusammenhange ihrer Vorlagen bewahren, nur teilweise ubernehmen oder aber ignorieren und mit vollig neuen Bedeutungen 'uberschreiben'. Der Band, der auf eine internationale Tagung in Tubingen zuruckgeht, versammelt Beitrage, welche die erwahnten Rezeptionsprozesse exemplarisch in einzelnen Zentren und Regionen des romischen Reiches diskutieren.
