Viele dieser Werke verbindet die detailgetreue und gleichzeitig reduzierte Modellierung der Gesichter, die eine unverkennbare Hand eines Meisters aufzeigt. Doch gibt es ein kleines Tafelbild, das sich von den erw???hnten stark unterscheidet und die Kunsthistoriker an vielen Punkten uneinig zur???ckl???sst. "Der Heilige Hieronymus im Geh???us" bildet eine Ausnahme im Gesamtwerk des italienischen K???nstlers. Die ???hnlichkeit und die Verbindungen zur niederl???ndischen Kunst sollen in der folgenden schriftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Bild als Grundlage dienen. Anhand verschiedener Beispiele des Hl. Hieronymus aus der nordeurop???ischen und italienischen Malerei sollen die intendierten Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in diesem Werk von Antonello da Messina aufgezeigt werden.
