Seller's Description:
Very good in very good jacket. Master of a Thousand Disguises illustrated by Eileen Christelow. 117p octavo, illustrated. A very good copy in a very good dust jacket front flap creased. Signed by Hicks on the title page. Tipped into the half title is a custom bookplate sent from Hicks and signed by him.
Author Charles B. Hicks has great skill in depicting the world of the innocent and adventurous world of the older child/young teen of mid-twentieth century, the age when children were (mostly) safe in their neighborhood and the term "family values" hadn't been invented yet because it was what we all (mostly) did. In this story, Alvin Fernald invents a prize-winning candy recipe and earns a trip to Europe with his friends. They are pursued by criminals, and have adventures while eluding them.

Alvin Fernald takes on Europe!
Alvin Fernald does it again in possibly the most zany of all his wonderful adventures. It all starts in the kitchen. A recipe concocted to win a cooking contest goes wonderfully wrong. All is forgotten until the contest award team arrives at Alvin's front door with the grand prize, a trip for three to Europe! Readers of the Alvin Fernald series will be delighted to see what The Pest, The Mighty Athlete, and The Magnificent Brain get themselves into in a trip through Europe. In addition, there are a series of wacky slogans dreamed up by the PR man who joins them on the trip. Alvin ends up at an inventing bench stocked by one of the great minds of Europe. And then there are the mysterious figures who seem to be following them... Those who enjoyed The Marvellous Inventions of Alvin Fernald or Alvin's Secret Code will be in for a great ride. Highly Recommended!
