Who rules the roost?
Gone for 8 years, running from love, Cat is brought back into the fold for merely a short weekend visit. This time, she believes she is in control as, now, she is no longer the "rancher's daughter" but rightful owner with his passing. She comes home to find the ranch has been taken over by the ranch foreman while in her absence. Grating her to the core, she tries to wrest control back into her own hands and put him in his place as foreman - rather than man of the house. She fights him every turn, while still seeing he has managed to bring the ranch to flourish under his guidence. Despite her anger, she is certain this is only a visit and finds only frustration when thwarted at every turn in leaving. Desperate to leave the only place she wants to be by the need to be away from the foreman she has always loved. Tossed into aiding the ranch while his is injured, she stays longer than intended. Giving him time to get back under her skin and into her bed. She is continually antagonized by a step-sister who loves the foreman and tries with inuendo and blantant (when inuendo no longer works) attempts at seduction of the foreman. Wrested to the breaking point of stress and dying to rid herself of the ranch as a means of determining his love for her or the ranch instead, she is torn. The ultimate conclusion is evident (as is often in books like this) but getting there is where the story lies. Great for the plot twists and telling of the conflict to resolution. Must read book!
