Thio-sulplraric Acid.--Hypo-sulphurous acid of some authors. Thio-sulphates are prepared either by adding sulphur to a sulphite or by partial oxidation of a sulphide. By the first method: Na2S03 + S = Na2S203 Large quantities of the sodium salt were formerly manufactured for use in photography, under the name sodium hypo sulphite. It is also used as an antichlor in chlorine bleaching. The acid corresponding to it has not been prepared iu the free state, as it rapidly decomposes. SULPHUR AND CHLORINE. 218. The Sulphides of Chlorine are three in number, having the formulas CI2S2, C12S, and C14S. They are formed by the direct union of their constituents, the first being formed when the sulphur is present in excess, the last when the chlorine is most abundant.
