Very Good. No Jacket. The Great Liberator of Ireland had intended this to be a multi-volume work, but only the first ever made it to publication. A Scarce title. This is a Very Good copy of the Third Edition, which was evidently issued over several years, as different publication dates do appear. Green cloth binding with blindstamping; gilt lettering on the spine. The covers have minor rubbing and bumping. The gutters are typically weak, but holding. This is an ex-libris copy, but with minimal intrusions: there is a stamp on the Title Page and a label has been (mostly) removed from the front paste-down (the Dewey number is penciled to the rear paste-down); the number remains on the spine, which has faded a bit to an olive cover. Clean text; 347 pages. The paper remains very supple and bright, with only occasional spotting. This is one of the more readable copies Quercus has seen; some minor restoration would make this exceptional. Size: 12mo-over 6¾"-7¾" tall.

Very Good. No Jacket. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition of the Great Liberator's history of Ireland. In a perhaps vain attempt to ward of the plagiarizers of America, there is a statement by O'Connell that authorizes Casserly as the "sole publishers." Although it is titled "Volume One 1172-1660, " O'Connell's book had no subsequent volumes issued (perhaps he was too hard at work on Irish independence to take the time! ). Full leather binding, worn and with splits at the spine, but still holding nicely. Three gilt bands are still visible but the spine label has been rubbed off. The text is clean and unmarked, still bright and readable, but is rather well spotted throughout. A decent example of an important Irish work. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 16mo-over 5¾"-6¾" tall.
