He deplored ritualism and Romanism. In this landmark work, he shows that, contrary to the screaching of the abolitionists, slavery was in no wise unscriptural. In fact, both the Old & New Testaments defended slavery, from the days of Abraham to St. Paul's Epistle to the Christian slave, Philemon. This book is not going to be popular with members of Black Lives Matter or Marxians pushing Critical Race Theory. It was not well-received by Yankee radicals in the Bishop's own lifetime.
