In His Steps is a Christian novel written by Charles M. Sheldon. The story is set in the fictional town of Raymond, where a group of Christians are challenged to live their lives according to the question ""What Would Jesus Do?"" The main character, Reverend Henry Maxwell, is deeply moved by the death of a homeless man named Jack, and he decides to take the challenge seriously. He and his congregation begin to make decisions based on this question, and they soon find that it leads them to make radical changes in their lives. The book explores themes of self-sacrifice, service to others, and the importance of living a life that is consistent with one's beliefs. Through the experiences of the characters, the author encourages readers to consider how they can live their lives in a way that reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ. In His Steps has been widely read and is considered a classic of Christian literature.1897. What happened when Christians in a local church pledged for an entire year not to do anything without first asking the question. What would Jesus do? For some, following Christ caused misunderstanding, conflict and suffering, but great joy. It meant entire dedication of money, talent, career, and influence to Christ. In His Steps is a most unusual appeal to the Christian to follow in Christ's steps, regardless of what others might do. An entertaining, yet challenging read. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. If you're looking for one of those rare inspirational stories with so many moral lessons in it that you remember for a lifetime... read In His Steps. To me, it is THE Christian book on how to live a God-honoring life, but in fictional form.
You're told the story of the First Church in a town called Raymond - and how they choose to ask themselves in any predicament: What would Jesus do? It becomes a thinking pattern and lifestyle. It changes countless lives.
In His Steps was originally written as the basis for the phrase "What would Jesus Do?"
Adults & teens should read it. Younger kids should be introduced to it as well. My one note of discretion is that a large percent of the story is about drinking (especially in the town trying to ban drinking) - but this part of the story in no way degrades the book.
I'm surprised at myself for only reading this book just now. It's a lifetime favorite!

A book that can be reread many times and provide more inspiration for living a Christian Life each time it is read. I am 81 and first read this book as a teenager.

Great Gift Item
I've read this book at least a dozen times and plan to re-read it again. It is also a story that challenges me each time I read it. A story of human nature, and the desire to live a life that is above standard. A life that shouts out to others the importance of living your life for others and holding to that higher standard. It is obtainable, but we sometimes have to make sacrifices... but they are worth the personal cost to us. It is filled with business principles, some violence, romance, action, drama, humor, rich and poor people and their situations, all walks of life. I keep a reserve of these books to give away to others. I've probably given away at least 30+ copies of this book. I can't praise it enough. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
