Seller's Description:
As New in Near Fine jacket. 8 1/2" X 11 1/4" This is an illustrated history of the world's largest pipe organ, installed in the Grand Court of the John Wanamaker department store in Philadelphia in 1911; although the original organ, brought from the St. Louis World's Fair by railroad to Philadelphia, had over 10, 000 pipes, it was not loud enough for the seven-story central atrium of the store, so Wanamakers installed an organ factory in the store with 32 full-time employees and by 1932 had added over 18, 000 more pipes; includes photographs on nearly every page; also included are three supplements: a 32-page Official Guide to Philadelpha's Historic Wanamaker Grand Organ; a facsimile edition of a 32-page pamphlet, Description of the Grand Concert Organ to Be Erected in Festival Music Hall of the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition; and a reprint of an illustrated 2-page article on the construction of the organ from the April 23, 1904 edition of Scientific American (green cloth with gold lettering; yellow dust jacket with green lettering & color photo of the organ on the front has very slight edgewear; otherwise a bright, clean, tight copy)
