Seller's Description:
Very good. xvi, [2], 315, [1] pages. Endpaper maps. Radar, for the Layman, Illustrations. Pacific Chronology. A Solomons Glossary. Bibliography. Index. Sticker residue on back cover. This is an Exposition-Banner Book. The bulk of the material researched is from battle action reports in the operational archives of the Naval Historical Center. These reports were required by Navy regulations to be prepared by the commanding officer of each ship engaged in action with the enemy. Since the fourteen battles described in this book were fought at night, it is understandable that descriptions of enemy ship sinkings, or heavy damage inflicted on unknown vessels, could not always be substantiated after hostilities ceased. This addresses the battles of: Savo Island, Cape Esperance, Guadalcanal (I and II), Tassafaronga, Rennell Island, Vill-Stanmore, Kula Gulf, Kolombangara, Vella Gulf, Horaniu, Vella Lavella, Empress Augusta Bay, Cape St. George.
