The triumph of a creed and a party has, on either side, been more considered than the development of facts, or those principles of moral justice which ought to animate the pen of the historian; and, after all the literary gladiatorship that has been exercised on this subject for nearly three centuries, the point of Mary's guilt or innocence remains undecided, and as much open to dis cussion as ever.
