Tall octavo. 473pp. Ownership signature (in one hand) of George and Jean Houser on the front fly (see below), and with several brief passages underlined in pencil. Spine a bit rubbed and page edges and preliminary and terminal leaves somewhat foxed, very good in moderately rubbed, very good dust jacket with several tiny nicks and tears. George Houser was a minister, Civil Rights activist, and activist for the independence of African nations. In 1942, with James Farmer and Bernice Fisher, he co-founded the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in Chicago. Houser is mentioned in five footnotes to the text.
